Trimming Wicks
-
Long, crooked wicks cause uneven burning or
dripping. For clean and even burning, trim
wicks to ¼” (0.5cm) before each
lighting. This is recommended for all candles
except round votives, tealights and 3-wicks
-
Hugging
- 3-Wick and round pillar
candles require a small amount of care to
assist an even burn. Once the candle has been
lit for a few hours, gently press the soft
wax inward around the edges to maintain a
flat surface. Do not hug square candles.
-
Burning Times
-
The first
time a round pillar is lit it should be for
only 5 or 10 minutes, gradually increasing
burning time for the next 4 or 5 times until
the bell-top is gone. As a general guide,
burn pillars, square and 3- wick candles long
enough each time for the wax to liquefy to
the edges- approximately 1 hour for each inch
of the candle’s diameter. Don’t
let the wax melt through the sides of the
candle. Remember to keep a flat surface, not
a deep well.
-
Appropriate Containers
-
Always
use the correct holder for candles. A votive
holder that is too wide will leave the liquid
wax too far from the flame, whilst a holder
that is too small may become too hot during
burning. Also ensure that holders are placed
on heat resistant surfaces when in use.
-
Removing Carbon
-
If
carbon builds on wick, extinguish candle,
allow to cool, trim wick tip for clean and
even burning, and re-light.
-
Avoiding
Fading and Warping –
Do not place candles close to or on heat sources
– such as direct sunlight, fires, radiators
or electrical equipment (e.g. stereos or television
sets).
-
Dripping
-
To avoid dripping wax, do not place candles
near draughts or air conditioners. If dripping
does occur, wait for the wax to harden and then
remove the excess.
-
Beautifying
-
Rubbing your candles gently with fine mesh
stocking will heighten gloss, remove scratches
and keep your candles beautiful.
-
Storage
-
Keep your candles in a cool, dry place. In
fact, If you refrigerate candles, they will
burn for longer. Simply wrap in aluminium
foil or cling film (to prevent cracking) –
but do not freeze!
-
Burn your Candles!
-
Remember, candles are for
burning – not just for show!
